Young Nigerian doctor dies after contracting Lassa fever from patient

The Bingham University Teaching Hospital, BHUTH, community in Jos, Plateau State, has been thrown into mourning following the death of a young female doctor, Dr. Salome Oboyi, who passed away on, February 2, 2026, after contracting Lassa Fever from a patient under her care.

The sad news which was shared today, on the X handle of the Bingham University Alumni Doctors, confirmed that before her demise, Oboyi was a Senior Resident Doctor in the Department of Obstetrics and Gynaecology.

According to the post, the entire BHUTH mourn with heavy heart the passing of a colleague Dr. Salome Oboyi, a Senior Resident in the department of Obstetrics and Gynaecology in BHUTH whose sad event happened 2 days ago following a battle with Lassa fever.

It added that her death has left colleagues, friends, and patients deeply saddened, as she is remembered for her dedication, professionalism, and selfless service.
