The phenomenal powerful woman hailed from Ogwashi-Uku, Delta State, Nigeria. She joined the World Bank in 1982, serving as a development economist and in various capacities, including Country Director for Malaysia, Mongolia, and Cambodia, and Deputy Vice President for the Middle East and North Africa. At the World Bank, she had a 25- year career as a development economist, rising to become a Managing Director for Operations.

Judging from her achievement and intelligence, Dr. Ngozi was the first Nigerian woman to serve two terms as Finance Minister of Nigeria, 2003-2006 and from 2011-2015, she subsequently served as a Minister of Foreign Affairs in Nigeria

Known for a leadership style focused on tenacity and wisdom rather than force, Dr. Okonjo Iweala has been serving as the Director- General of the World Trade Organization and she is the First African ti leas the WTO as the Director General.

Among the sectors she has served include boards of Danone, Standard Chartered Bank, MINDS: Mandela Institute for Development Studies, Carnegie Endowment for International Peace, Georgetown Institute for Women, Peace and Security, One Campaign, GAVI: Global Alliance for Vaccines and Immunization, she served at the Brookings Institution as a non-resident distinguished fellow with the Africa Growth Initiative in their Global Economy and Development Program.

While she continues to make impactful decision as the Director General of World Trade Organization, lend her voice to key economic factor and the growth and development of Nigeria, Africa Nations and the World at large, Dr. Okonjo Iweala’s success is heavily attributed to her ability to navigate complex political environments to secure financial agreements.

She has equally been ranked multiple times as one of Forbes Top 100 Most Powerful Women and in 2020 was named African of the Year.
