Dr. Ibnou Dieng is a distinguished biostatistician and a leading voice in agricultural research, policy, and development across Africa. With a career grounded in scientific rigor and strategic leadership, he continues to play a pivotal role in shaping Africa’s agricultural transformation.
Dr. Dieng currently serves as the Director of Strategic Planning and Chief of Staff at the International Institute of Tropical Agriculture (IITA). In this capacity, he works closely with the Director General and Senior Management Team to define the Institute’s strategic vision, strengthen institutional governance, and drive operational excellence.
His leadership ensures that IITA remains a visionary and impact-driven organization at the forefront of agricultural innovation across the continent.
IITA is a globally recognized, non-profit research-for-development organization based in Nigeria, committed to addressing hunger, poverty, and natural resource degradation across Africa.
The Institute delivers science-based solutions through improved crop systems, sustainable farming practices, youth empowerment in agribusiness, and strong policy engagement. Throughout his tenure, Dr. Dieng has held several senior leadership roles, contributing significantly to the Institute’s mission and long-term impact.
Beyond internal leadership, Dr. Dieng has actively participated in high-level diplomatic and technical missions, strengthening strategic partnerships with national governments and international development institutions. Notably, he has supported collaborations with countries such as Togo and with organizations including the African Development Bank, advancing regional strategies for food security and agricultural resilience.
With professional experience spanning more than 25 African countries, Dr. Dieng has worked extensively with governments, research institutions, and development partners to build sustainable, data-driven systems that enhance decision-making and accelerate agricultural development. His career journey includes senior roles at CEREAL in Senegal, AGRHYMET in Niger, and AfricaRice in Benin and Côte d’Ivoire. In recognition of his outstanding contributions to agricultural research and development, he was awarded the prestigious Dr. Robert S. Carsky Memorial Award.
