Maternal and child health remains a critical issue in Nigeria, as strengthening this sector helps reduce preventable deaths, improves access to education, and provides safe spaces for women and children across communities.
On today’s edition of Spotlight Feature, Africa Media Communication Consulting is honoured to spotlight Latoya Klaus Pakos, Co-Founder and CEO of Lafiya Nigeria, for her remarkable contributions to women’s reproductive health and well-being.
Pakos’ journey began while supporting a female micro-business programme in Kaduna and Katsina States. During this period, she and her team identified a significant gap in access to family planning services, particularly in underserved communities. This insight inspired the creation of Lafiya Nigeria, an evidence-based non-profit organisation dedicated to providing contraception and reproductive health services to women living in remote areas.
Lafiya Nigeria was first launched in Jigawa State, and following a successful pilot phase, the programme was replicated in Kebbi, Sokoto, and Kano States. Through these efforts, the organisation has empowered over 400,000 women to make informed choices about their reproductive health.
Beyond Lafiya Nigeria, Klau’s work sits at the intersection of research, operations, and management consulting. She has led impact and digital projects for microfinance organisations in Latin America and supported a Nigerian financial institution on growth and financing strategy. In the private sector, she developed expertise in procurement and supply chains, advising clients at Ayming UK and supporting several Fortune 500 companies across the United States and Europe. This blend of field experience and consulting discipline informs her approach to team building, government partnerships, and large-scale programme delivery.
Her achievements include being named a Forbes 30 Under 30 honouree, a Mulago Rainer Arnhold Fellow, and a Senior Research Fellow at the Global Policy Institute. Klau holds a Master’s degree in Philosophy, Politics, and Economics from the University of Oxford.
It is inspiring to highlight leaders like Klau Pakos, who invest their time, resources, and expertise into empowering women in rural communities ensuring they are informed, supported, and able to take charge of their reproductive health and overall well-being.
