Chairman of BUA Group, Abdul Samad Rabiu, has congratulated the Super Eagles following their impressive victory over Algeria, describing the win as a morale booster that has lifted the spirits of Nigerians and brought pride to the nation as the team advances to the semi-finals.
In a congratulatory message, Rabiu praised the players for their determination and resilience, urging them to maintain their momentum and continue flying Nigeria’s flag high on the continental stage.
To motivate the team ahead of the semi-final, the BUA Group chairman pledged a reward of $500,000 if the Super Eagles secure victory, with an additional $50,000 for every goal scored in the match. He further announced that should the team go on to win the final, he would reward them with $1 million, alongside a bonus of $100,000 for each goal scored in the final.
The announcement has sparked widespread reactions across the country. While many Nigerians applauded the gesture as a strong show of support for the national team, others have questioned the allocation of such large sums. Some citizens argued that the money, if invested in small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs), could help create jobs and improve livelihoods. Others suggested that similar funds could make a significant impact if channelled into critical national infrastructure, including power, transportation, healthcare, and education.
Despite the differing opinions, supporters of the incentive maintain that rewarding sporting success plays a key role in motivating athletes and promoting national unity.
As the Super Eagles prepare for their semi-final encounter, expectations remain high, with Nigerians hoping the team’s on-field success will continue to inspire the nation.
