Lagos State’s political community mourns the tragic death of Dr. Oluwafemi Olawale Adefulire, the only son of former Lagos State Deputy Governor, Princess Adejoke Orelope-Adefulire. The heartbreaking news emerged on Wednesday after the UK-based medical doctor passed away in Dubai, United Arab Emirates, shortly after undergoing a surgical procedure.
Family sources described the incident as devastating and completely unexpected, noting that the loss has left the Adefulire household in profound shock. Dr. Adefulire is survived by his wife and children.
The Lagos State chapter of the All Progressives Congress (APC) confirmed the development, with the party’s spokesperson, Seye Oladejo, expressing deep sorrow. He described the event as “one of the most dreadful tragedies any parent can face,” adding that the party’s entire structure has been shaken by the news.
Princess Orelope-Adefulire, widely respected in Lagos politics, served as Deputy Governor between 2011 and 2015 during the administration of former Governor Babatunde Fashola. She currently serves as the Senior Special Assistant to President Bola Tinubu on Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), a position she retained following her reappointment in September 2023.
The news of her son’s passing has triggered an outpouring of condolences across political and social circles, with many describing the loss of an only child as a grief beyond comprehension.
As tributes continue to pour in, one painful question lingers in the minds of many: How does a mother begin to heal from the loss of her only son?
