Setback for Nnamdi Kanu as Court Rejects Transfer Request

A Federal High Court in Abuja has dismissed an application by IPOB leader Nnamdi Kanu seeking to be moved from the Sokoto Correctional Centre to a facility in Abuja or Nasarawa.
Kanu, through the Legal Aid Council, had argued that a transfer was necessary to properly pursue his appeal. But Justice James Omotosho ruled that the request could not be granted without first hearing from the Federal Government. The case has been adjourned to January 27, 2026.

Kanu is currently serving a life sentence after being convicted on seven terrorism-related charges in November. Authorities transferred him to Sokoto, citing security concerns at Kuje Prison.

Do you think the court will eventually grant his transfer request?
