A statement issued by the media adviser to Atiku Abubakar has brought renewed attention to Nigeria’s deepening national challenges, as the former vice president described the country as being in the grip of a “full-blown internal crisis.” Citing persistent violence across the North-West, North-East, and Middle Belt, alongside rising kidnapping and criminality nationwide, he warned that the state’s capacity to protect lives and property is increasingly under strain.
The situation, he argued, is no longer a series of isolated incidents but a systemic breakdown leaving citizens vulnerable and questioning the very legitimacy of governance.
Beyond security, the statement paints a grim picture of the economic climate, pointing to inflation, currency depreciation, and declining purchasing power as key pressures weighing heavily on Nigerians.
